Delaney’s First Holidays: A Grandmother’s Joy

This past holiday season was extra special, not only did our kids and family gather from around the country, but we also welcomed a precious new member to our family: Delaney! She is our first grandchild, a beautiful and radiant little girl who has already brought so much light into our lives. Delaney celebrated her first Christmas and Hanukkah with us, making the holidays feel absolutely magical. Her bright smile was the highlight of every moment, and we found ourselves in a playful competition to see who could give her favorite toy!

Becoming a grandmother was something I knew would happen one day, but I could never have imagined the profound joy it would bring. From the moment we were there for her birth, I’ve felt incredibly blessed to have her in our lives. Jim and I are deeply committed to building a strong bond and fostering a sense of family connection with her. Even though she lives in Texas with her parents, we make it a priority to FaceTime with her nearly every day, sometimes even twice, especially when she does something our daughter excitedly shares as spectacular (and let’s be honest, every smile feels spectacular!).

I’ve been asked many times what I’d like Delaney to call me. While Jim has come up with some fun names for us, I’m perfectly happy with “Grandma.” Of course, we’ll see what she decides to call us when she starts talking! What I do know is that Delaney has changed our world in the most wonderful way, filling our hearts with gratitude and love.

As we reflect on this new chapter in our lives, we look forward with excitement and curiosity. Who will be the next in our family to help grow our tribe? One thing is certain: our family’s love and connection will only deepen as we embrace these beautiful moments together.
