Karen Johnson’s Story

Over 21 years ago, I relocated to Central Florida from New York with my husband and three children in search of new opportunities for our family. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from SUNY Oswego, where I developed a strong foundation in business administration and management. My career began in corporate sales, where I progressed from Administrative Assistant to Office Manager, then Account Executive, and ultimately Senior Executive and Sales Manager. Along the way, I honed my skills in streamlining operations, optimizing workflows, and leading executive-level initiatives.

“While some of my knowledge and skills come from education and work, a valuable part of who I am comes from my life experiences and the people I surround myself with.”

After moving to Florida, I joined Marriott Vacation Club, initially working in HR before transitioning to the Direct Sales Department. For 15 years, I thrived as a Sales Executive, managing lead generation, marketing, and contract administration—essentially running my own business within the company. Later, as a Manager, I spearheaded reporting initiatives, developed standard operating procedures, and oversaw commission structures. These experiences solidified my project management and leadership skills, and deepened my understanding of the connection between efficient operations and business growth.

During my time at Marriott, I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Marriott during a visit to the Marriott Grand Lakes, where I was part of the task force opening the resort complex. Inspired by his book Spirit to Serve, I resonated deeply with his philosophy: “Take care of the Marriott people, and they will take care of the Marriott guests.” This principle continues to guide my leadership style and commitment to serving others.

Seeking greater flexibility and the opportunity to help others grow their businesses, I co-founded Boost. My passion lies in helping small businesses and solo professionals thrive by optimizing sales, marketing, and business operations. With expertise in tools like Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Salesforce, and other systems, I design tailored solutions that improve efficiency, drive results, and allow clients to focus on growing their business.

Beyond Boost, I am passionate about supporting families, especially those navigating the challenges of caring for seniors. I also have a strong commitment to community service, having served as President of the West Point Parents Association of Central Florida, where I led fundraising and local initiatives. Whether in my personal or professional life, I find joy in helping others succeed.

At home in sunny Orlando, Florida, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jim, our three adult children and spouses, and one grandchild. We share our home with our Texas Heeler, Cooper, and two rescue cats, Zeus and Lucky Louie. In my free time, I love traveling, gardening (as the proud “weeder”), watching movies, and exploring my lapidary hobby.
